She may look confused and dumb, but Catnip Kitty will never lose your precious sewing tools because she hides them on her back - thread, seam ripper, needle threader, scissors etc.  Pop your thimble on her tail, stick your needles in her head, fill her with sand so as the needles and pins are kept sharp as well as giving her stability from falling over whilst she "cat-naps".
