************************************************************************
Hello Everyone,
Bonjour mes amis,
Home again and well back
into the swing of things. I just MUST travel again to Europe though. To stand
in front of a building that is centuries old when Australia is only 200 years
old, is something very difficult to imagine. Their history staring you in the
face sends your imagination whirling. I am in absolute awe of the sculptured
architecture and the sights I saw. Don’t want to bore you with all the details
of my journey when so many of you have travelled so extensively, but this was
my first visit to France, Switzerland and England, so naturally I’m still on
cloud nine. Flying over London as we circled and seeing Big Ben, The Tower Bridge
and all the other things we’ve learnt about in school history was just tingling.
My nose was glued to the plane window and I was so excited when I saw my first
"real castle" like in the storybooks.
I attended two Quilt Shows
in Lyon, France and, as good as they were, I came home to congratulate our Show
Organizers here in Australia because we are world class. Many attributes are
far superior here, though I must say I liked their food selections! The International
Quilt Displays were absolutely superb, some of which have been on show here
in Australia too. The Quilt Journals and Postcards display was "sizzilating"
and it will be interesting to see the OZ display at next years AQC in February
at Melbourne. The size of the main Show I’d say was equivalent to a Perth size
show, meaning our larger shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne have far more
booths and displays. There was a World Map whereby visitors could place a pin
into the place where they were from and Wagga was shown, so I pinned it and
felt quite important! Well, Wagga is only 25 mins away and it is where I shop
and do my banking etc. so that was close enough for me. There were 4 other pins
in the map of Australia but I only discovered one person, Jenny Bowker who was
demonstrating on the Bernina Stand! Missed seeing fellow Scquilter Margot, who
now lives in France and who had guided me so well with accommodation and suggestions
of what to expect. If one had’ve been looking for fabric or quilt patterns,
then you could’ve gone berserk with the plastic, but since I had already experienced
the new luggage weight laws, I wasn’t buying anything in that line!!
Meeting my Swiss friend
who has been teaching and selling our Pleat Makers for several years was just
fantastic. We have cemented a very good friendship. Ruth and her husband Paul,
were the perfect hosts for us when we visited them in Switzerland. A village
that was so picturesque on Lake Geneva is their home and they introduced us
to some very fine eating. I’ve fallen in love with Swiss Bread & Cheese
varieties, not to mention the bags of Swiss Chocolate I brought home. My travelling
companion was a dear business friend from USA and I hated parting with her at
Heathrow airport. She made me swear to a pact of "what happened in Lyon, stays
in Lyon" and then included all the other places we ventured to as well. A perfect
combination of "Laurel & Hardy" is how she described us with "this is another
fine mess you’ve got me into!" I must stop, but as you can imagine, I have a
hundred little anecdotes to share.
I should have a few new
products for you later this year but that side of it was very disappointing
yet reassuring that Punch with Judy is on top of it all in those fields.
Our Pleat Makers were a
great success with orders from several European Patchwork Shops. It was amazing.
I didn’t have to introduce myself or the product, they knew about it from the
Burda Patchwork Magazine article and all of Ruth’s demonstrations. I simply
showed my business card and had a Pleat Maker in my hand and their face lit
up with excitement. John is in overtime making them to complete orders. Maybe
I’ll return teaching for them some day…………
Back to reality down on
the farm, little lambs are being born daily and the countryside is green and
the air is fresh in the mornings. Wonderful to be here. Farmer John is grinning
from ear to ear with his purchase this week of his own Shearing Plant (though
be it second hand) rather than having the shearer bring his own. Another step
forward to becoming a "real farmer"!
Our recent "retreatees"
witnessed God’s Little Acre and thoroughly enjoyed their workshop days in our
new Warehouse and tasting John’s fine barbeques. We sewed, ate, drank, told
stories and had a helluva time altogether that words escape me. Fabulous bunch
of ladies and several hubbies too. Many have already rebooked to return next
year as they learned so much and had such a great holiday away from it all.
I’ve had some glowing emails from them and intend introducing a new section
on the website as a Gallery and Testimonial for past "retreatees" to share with
others who are considering venturing our way and just need a little encouragement.
After they left, I swore I didn’t want to see another dish in the sink or cook
for a herd again for yonks, only to be greeted with a phone call from my sister
and husband asking if they could arrive that afternoon for a few days, realizing
that they knew I had to leave for a show in 4 days but they would understand.
Love my family and, of course, dear students, I’m only teasing!
Au revoir,
Happy Sewing,
Your friend,
Judy

1. SHOWS &
WORKSHOPS
For a complete listing of all the major Shows for 2006, you may visit our Show Schedule section.
Melbourne’s Craft &
Quilt Fair was a huge success last week. Thank you to all who visited our stand
and made it an excellent show for us personally. I did get a chance to chat
to a few and it’s always beaut to catch up with you face to face and match the
emailed name with the person. We had a very enthusiastic bunch of ladies attend
the Threadology Seminar too before the Show.
Canberra’s Craft & Quilt
Fair commences on Thursday next week. The Show is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm
daily from 10th – 13th August. We just love going to Canberra
because of several reasons, the main one being that we have so many very loyal
customers who’ve become friends over the many years of shows we’ve attended
locally, both in Queanbeyan and Canberra itself. Being a smaller show than other
Capital Cities, it often allows me more time to chat in a relaxed atmosphere
with many customers. Many of us stay at the same Motel/Country Club so the social
side is also rewarding. The boys even have their annual golf morning at the
club in the early hours whilst the frost is still on the ground!
Do come and visit us and
don’t forget to bring your printed SHOW COUPONS
with you if you want to receive some extra bargains. Visit our website, print
them off and bring them with you. We’re the first booth on the right as
you enter the main hall, Stand A1. You will need to mention you receive our
Newsletters too in order to receive some extra special bonus offers further
down in the Specials Section of this Newsletter.
For those attending, I have
a Free Workshop daily in Workshop 2 at 1.30pm entitled, "Quilting with
Zing & Pizzazz!" Quilts with "zing" attract attention. Pizzazz
your quilting with new trendy ideas and products.
This will have something
for everyone, no matter what your level of expertise and I’m pleased to say
it is an extended workshop of 45mins duration.
If there is something in
particular you’d like brought to the show and kept aside till you visit, then
please email me before Monday evening so as it may be included for you. Being
a smaller stand than what we have at other Shows, his lordship refuses to take
the whole box and dice, so let me know before midnight Monday 7th.
Because this Newsletter is a little later than I had hoped in being relayed
through the system, still email me even on Tuesday or Wednesday and I can put
something aside for you from the show stock if you’re not visiting till the
weekend, just in case we run short.
We also have commenced a
new Show Program to be viewed on our TV at the Show Stand giving more Show Special
Offers and introducing New Products. I refer to it as "Show Stoppers"
and I’d like to think you did just that. Stop a couple of moments to view
it when you visit and pass along any comments to me so as I may refine it.
It’s a new idea I have and I’d really appreciate some input from you if it helps
you see what is available from our stand.
There are some wonderful
NEW Show Offers for you, so please check the Specials Section as I’ve decided
to make them available to everyone because some are new only this week and I
didn’t want to have heaps of emails from disappointed Sydney and Melbourne visitors
that these weren’t available during their June/July shows!

5. SPECIALS
Klassé
Fine Gold Scissors Set
containing two pair of premium quality Italian Scissors that feel like the "ultimate
indulgence". Go on, treat yourself! Normally $49.95 but my offer to you is only
$35.00. Expensive looking blue velvet box too!
Quilter’s
Mat Bag – this is the perfect solution to keep your mats and rulers safe
for storing or travelling. Even if you already have something similar, this
is too good a bargain to miss out on.
Trolley
Bag – Three bags all nicely compacted together for easy transport. Can’t
do without mine, however, I’d like one of these too as the fabric is a beautiful
quilted one that looks luxurious. Definitely for sewers on the go attending
shop classes or retreats. I know many even take their machine with them on holidays
whilst "he" may enjoy fishing. Suggest he buys it for you for Father’s Day coming
up soon!
Now, EXTRA
SPECIAL, for Newsletter members only! For each Trolley Bag purchased,
I will offer the Klassé Fine Gold Scissors Set mentioned above for only $20.00,
RRP $49.95. Simply mention this in the additional comments section of your order
as it is for YOU only.
Pattern
Weights 2/pkt, normally RRP $7.95, we are offering 2 pkts
for $10.00, that’s four weights. Excellent to hold down a tissue pattern when
cutting out fabric for dressmaking etc. I’m sure you’ll find other uses for
them too. They have a little tiny pins on the underneath side to "hold" the
tissue and fabric together preventing movement. Actually, I find them excellent
for quilting and other projects too.
The Madeira
Treasure Chest contains 194 spools – 180 Rayon, 10 Metallic
& 4 Bobbinfil and would cost $1,200.00 at normal pricing if purchased individually,
but we have a great offer of $399.00. This offer has been taken off our website
now but I still will allow it for my Newsletter group, now that IS a great offer.
If you are attending the Canberra show, you wouldn’t want to be lugging this
huge box around, so we’ve arranged to have you order it at the show, fill in
a coupon, pay for it, then we’ll have it mailed to you at no extra cost.
This Free Delivery offer
now extends for all Ott-Lite products too. Simply email me your order
prior to the show or see us at the show and we will have it mailed to you absolutely
free of charge. All you do is visit our stand at the show to fill out
an Order Form and pay for it in person. Sorry, only for show visitors.
Three tools made by the
same company, The Buttonhole
Buster, The
Hump Jumper and The
Puts It are all handy items to add to your vital equipment and I have a
super special for you that these may all be purchased for $22.00 as a "group
buy". Of course, you may purchase them individually, but the cost would
be higher.
6. MADE IN AUSTRALIA
Julie
Hall is one amazing young lady. She is the mother of 7 month old twins and
has a two year old as well, yet still finds time to pursue her passion for machine
embroidery. Julie contacted me to view her designs and
I was thrilled with her "stumpwork" Aussie flowers, so she sent me some and
we sewed them in one of our recent Retreats. Everyone loved them. You will too.
For the children, she has
Zoo Animals, a Snakes & Ladders Quilt, Beautiful Bugs, a Gingerbread House
and some lovely Candlewicking designs.
Congratulations Julie and
I’m so glad to welcome you to our "Made in Australia" section.
10. DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the new
Iron-On Ribbon & Thread Tips from Kandi Corp. for the Professional Touch
Applicator Wand will also fit their previous model L’orna Decorative Touch Applicator
Wand? So, if you have a DTAW, these new little gems will fit your model too.
Did you know that we have
a monthly special on our website that is not mentioned or advertised anywhere?
You do need to visit the homepage and check on or around the first day of each
month.
Did you know that when using
the #1 Fasturn Turning Tool that the fabric MUST be on the bias for ease of
use? It is such a fine fabric tube and makes wonderful buttonhole loops. Just
make sure you sew the bias tube with a small zigzag as straight stitching seams
will "pop" open when pressure is exerted upon them.
Did you know that if you
visit our website often, which I hope you do, then you should hit the "refresh"
button now and again to make sure you are viewing the very latest edition? Otherwise,
you won’t have all the updates and specials. Now, that would be a shame, wouldn’t
it?
Our new Warehouse.
Till next time,
