SHOWS
Next week we are off to our Capital City – CANBERRA. You just HAVE to be there and spend a couple of days as there are some great opportunities to see some wonderful exhibits and displays. Canberra is a great place to visit with the entire family. Do not think Nicole K will be there this time though!

Canberra Craft & Quilt Fair to be held August 9 - 12 from 10.00am to 5.00pm daily at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
With the Craft & Quilt Fair in town along with two other special quilt shows, the Capital is the place to be.
Plan a Crafty Winter Break in Canberra!
Canberra Quilters Inc. Exhibition 2007
The Annual Members’ Exhibition, featuring more than 180 quilts from marvellous miniatures to stunning queen sized bed quilts will be on display. Themed as Hot August Night, they’ll be sure to dazzle and keep any crafter feeling warm and snug this August. Canberra Quilters Inc. is now in their 31st year and has a membership of over 400 quilters.
The Best of Australia Exhibition will be a highlight of the quilt show where a collection of the award winning quilts from each state in Australia will feature in this display. These quilts have won Best of Show in their 2006 state guild shows and illustrate a variety of styles and techniques.
At the National Gallery, in a rare treat for quilt-lovers, see the historic
Rajah Quilt, an amazing example of early colonial craftsmanship, made by convict women en-route to Hobart Town, Australia, in 1841 aboard the ship Rajah. Only on show once a year, see this amazing quilt from August 8 – 29 at the National Gallery of Australia from 10am – 5pm.
At the Australian National Capital Artists Gallery in Dickson, view the Eyeline exhibition, contemporary textile art by renowned ACT art quilt group, tACTile – comprising Jenny Bowker, Helen Gray, Dianne Firth, Beth Miller and creative duo Beth and Trevor Reid. The exhibition will be on from August 8 – 12.
So do not miss this rare opportunity to see these amazing exhibitions together in one city! Have an August weekend in Canberra and join craft lovers from around NSW and the ACT in Australia’s national capital.

See you there! Come visit us at our Stand A01 and say hello.

Remember to also visit our website and print off the Show Coupons which you must hand to us if you want to take advantage of our Special Show Offers.
My daily workshop will be
"Inspirational Ideas using the Pleat Maker" to be held in Workshop 3 at 1.00pm daily. In this presentation I will inspire you to use your pleaters like you never thought possible!
"Ever thought of using a Pleat Maker for Prairie Points, Rosettes, Flowers, Shark's Teeth, Scenery, Inserts or Fans? Judy demonstrates what she claims is the most versatile product she's ever used! Be shown the how-to-do-it easy steps.
My Pre-Show Seminar will be a follow on to my last year's Threadology Seminar. This seminar really is different to last year’s with all these new know how to do it techniques able to be sewn on ANY sewing machine. That is right. No need for a computerized machine embroidery sewing machine here! I am doing heaps of new techniques and how-to-do-its. I have called it Threadology Sequel because it goes further down the line of what you can do with threads and techniques.
For bookings please contact Rebecca Reed on rebeccar@expertiseevents.com.au or myself. If you attended Diploma of Threadology and enjoyed it, you NEED to also enrol in this one. I promise you a much smaller class and everyone will get to see, touch and enjoy everything.
Threadology Sequel - Tuesday 7th August
with Judy Hall from Punch with Judy
2pm to 4.30pm Fee: $30
Create the beautiful sewing of grandma's era on your own machine today and no - you do not need the latest computerised model. As a sequel to her Threadology Seminar, Judy will explore embellishments such as bobbin work using ribbon and decorative threads, couching, trapunto using wash-away thread, appliqué with fusible thread, shrink embroidery, crinkling, texturing fabric, manipulating fabric, heirloom techniques using a wing, twin and triple needle.
A reminder also that
Punch with Judy will NOT be attending the Stitches & Craft Show in August at Rosehill Racecourse, Sydney nor the September one at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne.
For those wishing to attend the Sydney Stitches & Craft Show, it will be held from 22nd - 26th August at Rosehill Racecourse, Sydney from 10.00am to 5.00pm daily. This is the 21st Stitches & Craft Show celebration and they are even having a big Birthday Cake cutting. Since Punch with Judy is the second longest Exhibitor still on the scene, I did get a phone call asking what do we need to do in order to have you join us for such an event? but it is impossible now as I have other commitments.
Congratulations Reed Exhibitions!

RETREATS
The
Overlocker Retreat that was to be held in July this year was transferred to August when we decided not to attend the Stitches at Rosehill. So, maybe the new date suits you better and it certainly will be a little warmer, hopefully. We would love to have you join us for this promising to be such an exciting Retreat.
Anne van der Kley is world renown as the guru of Overlockers and she is the tutor with myself assisting.
Wow, overlockers have come a long way from when they were first introduced; but how many are still using their overlocker simply to neaten edges of their dressmaking? Today, thanks to the new technology, it is an eye-opener as to how overlockers are now used as an exciting necessity for our sewing creativity. This is an absolutely brilliant workshop that shouldn’t be missed. It is a double header for some as many students are attending the Pleat Maker Retreat and staying on for the Overlocker Retreat. Why not consider either or both too?
Overlocking Retreat to be held 22nd – 24th August, 2007.
The
Pleat Maker Techniques Retreat will be held
18th - 20th August, 2007. Fabulous Retreat in which you will learn numerous techniques on how to use our Pleat Makers, plus a little about our Fasturn Turning Tools. You will make an Heirloom Bolster Cushion featuring Shark's Teeth, Prairie Points, Mocked Smocking and Ruffling; as well as umpteen dozen other techniques.
I've had very positive reaction to the proposed
Digitizing/Customizing Retreat I told you about last month.
A 3 Day Retreat consisting of One Day Customizing and Scanning Images, One Day of Digitizing and One Day of Small Projects using what you learn in those first two days. To make this class flow affectively, every student would be using Generations software which would be provided to you complimentary for the duration of the Retreat. This is the only way I can see such a class "flowing" - if everyone was using the same software and doing the same steps simultaneously with big onscreen tuition from our tutor for you to follow step by step on your own laptop. Would not matter whether you have Generations at home or a different software, everyone can learn something. So many keep asking for this and I have a very professional experienced tutor booked for this and we are just finalizing a date in March 2008.

DAMAGED PRODUCTS
We occasionally have items damaged in transit, so we offer these at discounted prices.
Currently I have a
Hoop-It-All Cap Hoop for a Brother Galaxie 2000 (PC8200) which has a clean break near the connection piece. I am sure this could be glued securely and then work perfectly, otherwise, I am happy to refund. Normally $299.00, now $100.00 plus $5.00 postage.
Photo Fun Book from HP about printing your own fabric for quilts and crafts which has been badly damaged with water. All the pages open fine and it is all legible. To a good home for $12.00 plus $3.00 postage.
A Sew Shabby Chic Fabric Bowl Template for making fabric bowls using Timtex Stabilizer, in four pieces, but fixable. Someone may have it for $5.00 (can not give it away otherwise you will think it has zilch value) plus $3.00 postage.
A Set of Acrylic Nesting Squares comprising of 2, 4, 6 & 8 inch, has a clean break on one side only, would be perfect after gluing. Normally $21.95, now $8.00 plus $3.00 postage.
Baltimore in Bloom Book by Pam Bono minus the CD that normally comes with it. The book is perfect and has numerous projects using The Angler 2 a fabulous method of easy patchwork. One only for $25.00 plus $3.00 postage.
An
LS33 2 inch Gatetop Frame in Silver that is faulty in the way it is hard to close, but someone could fiddle with it and have it working better. This is one of those cute circular expanding type frames for evening purses. Normally $55.00 going for $15.00 plus $4.00 postage to anyone who is prepared to take the risk of trying to fix. At the very worst, it would be fine as a showpiece to wear, however, I am sure someone with patience could fix.
A Mercury Template which is now in three pieces normally $59.95, this one only $15.00 plus $7.00 postage.
I hope some of you can find homes for these treasures.

DID YOU KNOW?
Just a few little reminders on how to best use our website and ordering system. A few little housekeeping points to help you and myself.
Did You Know that you do not have to register simply to place an order on our website?
Did You Know that registering does give you advantages though? Once registered, each time you log on, all your details are automatically remembered so as you do not have to enter your name and address etc. each time.
Did You Know that by registering, you then have the option of having a Wish List? Only you may view this, not for my eyes. The obvious advantage of this is for family members to know what products you would really appreciate for birthdays and Mother’s Day etc. But the other advantage to you is when you are surfing our website and you find something of interest, pop it into your wishlist for a later date to investigate further. Saves you trying to remember its name or what section you found it in.
Did You Know that you do not have to enter your Credit Card details on our website if you prefer to have us keep them on file? Simply type On File when you are at that section. You do have to complete your Expiry Date though as that may have changed since your last order. Initially, simply phone or fax your details through.
Did You Know that registering for our Newsletter has absolutely nothing to do with registering as a user on our website? I often have customers email me saying they can not log on when in fact, they have never registered, they simply receive my Newsletters.
Did You Know that when you advise me of a change of email address that I need your previous one too so as I may delete it at the same time? If you have added your new email address yourself, did you also unsubscribe your previous email address? I do pay for them and I would not like to be paying for old email addresses no longer in use.
Did You Know about our
Punch Points Voucher Loyalty System? Punch Points Vouchers are issued for Website Orders only. They may not be used as a Cash Discount. What you need to do is save them and then choose something to the same value and have that as your Freebie with any Website Order. Also, they may not be redeemed at our Show Stands as they are for Website Orders only and we have no way of checking there if they've previously been used. Full details are on the reverse side of the voucher. Simply type the Voucher Numbers in the Additional Comments Section of your Order Form when checking out and list the item you wish to receive as your
FREEBIE.

GOLDEN OLDIES
This section is to remind you of some favourite notions of mine that I use regularly. No, theyare not new, but they are great.
This time I have chosen the Australian made product called
Perfect Sew Stabilizer. It is a washaway fabric
stabilizer in an easy to use spray applicator bottle containing 250ml for $11.95. It eliminates puckering on machine embroidery, prevents fabric edges from rolling, excellent for heirloom sewing and to stabilize any sheer fabric. Truly, this is a great product and very underestimated because it is a stabilizer in a bottle as opposed to a stabilizer laying flat under your fabric. You WILL love it. Heirloom sewing just does not pucker! Plus, it is now available in a 1Lt Bottle too at $29.95.
Spray It. Dry It. Sew It. Rinse It. That easy!
Till next time,
Judy Hall
