************************************************************************
Hello Everyone,
Hi Everyone,
One of our little Mini Newsletters
in-between normal website updates because I needed to bring you up to date with
a few items.
Firstly, apologetically
I whoopsed in my last Newsletter to you giving you the original, now incorrect,
dates for the Adelaide Craft & Quilt Fair.
The Show is most definitely
commencing on Thursday 3rd November and will run until Sunday 6th November.
10.00am to 5.00pm daily.
Refer to Show Section below.
Secondly, all the Bulk Cut
Stabilizers are now in stock and prices have been confirmed.
Thirdly, I've been overwhelmed
with bookings for our Retreats next year. I have placed names in order of "first
in best dressed" because they will ALL be booked out and I'm now trying
to schedule more dates for the overflow. I WILL NOT be contacting everyone though
until late this year with confirmations and class requirement lists. If you've
already expressed a desire to attend, you WILL be on my list, so don't panic
if you have been waiting for deposit details and schedules from me.
Fourthly, girls in New Zealand,
I fly out tomorrow morning, so you only have today for last minute requests
for items to be collected at the Show Stand. There were several ranges of products
I just couldn't bring this year because of freight space, so please don't come
expecting me to have EVERYTHING in my range. If there's something in particular
you need, you have just TODAY to let me know.
I had several emails from
visitors to the September Stitches & Craft Show in Melbourne recently, disappointed
that we were not there and somehow thought we'd stopped doing Shows fullstop.
??? Yes, true! Again, we will DEFINITELY be in Melbourne at the AQC in January,
the Stitches & Craft Show in March and the Craft & Quilt Fair in July,
ALL in Melbourne. Naturally, we are in other Capital Cities too, please don't
misunderstand this issue - we will be carrying on as normal, just cutting a
few out, that's all.
There's only a few autographed
CD's from Ricky Tims left now, don't miss out if this appeals to you. Future
stock will not be autographed by Ricky.
Our eldest Grandson, Reece,
is accompanying us to NZ for more experience in the great big wide world. Nearly
a teenager, he has helped on two occasions before on a Sunday both at Hamilton
NZ two years ago and at Hobart this year. He loved it. So, my clan of Kiwi followers,
make him feel at ease when you visit us and say Hi. Now, it's not my doing that
he just can't take his beloved "Swannies" Football Jumper off! Think
he's sleeping in it! Shame the Grand Final is actually being played the Saturday
of the NZ Show and he can't watch the direct telecast!!! For the benefit of
our International readers, I am referring to our National Australian Rules Football
Grand Final and his team, the Sydney Swans, have made the Grand Final. We always
have our Exhibitors Party whilst in NZ so the Saturday night we're whooping
it up as a 50's Rock 'n Roll night out. Yes, we all get dressed up every year
and really let our hair down. If you don't get dressed to the theme, they really
make you feel embarrassed and ashamed. So, anything goes. See, you thought it
was all work!
I've never publicly said
a huge thank you of appreciation for the delightful food that some have brought
to us on our Show Stands to chase away the hunger pains. You all know how busy
we are for the full day each day, it hardly leaves time to run to the loo let
alone stand in the queues for food. So, thank you to Joy in Adelaide for your
wonderful home made goodies, to Marie who brought home made biscuits to us in
Melbourne and certainly to Alan for his delicious to-die-for fruit cake he made
himself at a Sydney Show quite some time back. These were all graciously accepted
and enjoyed immensely. You try standing and talking all day every day without
any breaks, always with a smile on your face, helping people choose the right
products and explaining how they work whilst your tummy is rumbling! Is there
a reason, other than gratitude, for me publicly thanking these wonderful people?
Naaaah!
Remember I asked if anyone's
rellies wanted to teach in Korea, that our son Rowan was seeking new recruits?
One replied and her daughter has now been successfully placed into a Korean
School teaching English to start in the New Year. Good luck to you Heather and
Bon Voyage. I hope you enjoy your experience and learn heaps from the opportunity.
Well, Big Bird is aptly
named. Fifi is now sitting on no less than 16 eggs and Big Bird won't let anyone
near her. We'll have to wait and see what he's made of. Staff here are constantly
shooing him away as he "goes you" (yes, the turkeys have free range
of the farm during the day). Hope this passes when and if he's a daddy.
I now know what it must
be like to give your children up for adoption (hope that doesn't offend anyone
as it is with tongue in cheek) because I had to part with little Pepe, the new
poddy lamb. He was doing so well and had become part of the furniture in the
mail room even with all the staff mothering him, but I did realize that being
born a mere male he was destined for market. So, reluctantly, but for his sake,
he now has a new home. One of our fellow Exhibitors made the five hour drive
from the outskirts of Melbourne just to collect him and give Pepe a long life
on his 5 acres with other animals that is becoming like a little zoo. They've
even sent me pics to show me how he's settling in. Stupid and all, isn't it?
HIM says "it's just another lamb!" but we know differently don't we?
Boy, has Rusty (sheepdog) been jealous though. I mean the icing was on the cake
when I allowed Pepe to share his kennel for warmth one cold night. Don't think
Rusty slept in it for the rest of the week!
Warehouse now has the base
all concreted in and pegged out with the frame to go up this week. Jen and Leonie,
our two new staff members, want to relocate the stock into it themselves so
as they know where everything is because they're having a fun time of "go
and seek" fulfilling orders in our present mailroom with the walls bursting
with stock always.
Happy Sewing,
Your friend,
Judy

SHOWS CALENDAR
For a complete listing of all the major Shows for 2005, visit our Show
Schedule section.
NZ CRAFT & QUILT
FAIR, HAMILTON, NEW ZEALAND
A reminder to all across
the waters in Kiwiland, you still have time to enrol in one of the following
Pre Show Seminars, but you must email me today.
My Pre Show "Machine
Embroidery Seminar" on Tuesday 20th September from 2.00pm - 4.00pm at the
Waikato Events Centre.
Join me for this informative
seminar, hopefully, answering all the questions you may have to improve your
machine embroidery.
My Pre Show Seminar on Photos
to Fabric will be held on Wednesday 21st September from 10.00am to 12
noon at the Waikato Events Centre.
You don't have to be a computer
whiz, come and enjoy this very informative seminar.
I have a great range of
inspirational ideas for you to be so creative. Not just heirloom quilting with
photos; you really will be amazed with these modern techniques.
Don't miss this opportunity as it won't be repeated in New Zealand again. This
seminar is already heavily booked, but I can always squeeze another in.
Each of these will cost
NZ$35.00 and will also include some very valuable Lucky Door Prizes and other
surprises. Money wisely spent!
There are still vacancies
so please contact myself or Rebecca Reed on
(02) 9452 7542 or email
her at rebeccar@expertiseevents.com.au
to book, but seeing as it is so close to NZ Show time, please email me today,
Sunday 18th September.
Remember too, if you mention
you receive my Newsletters, then ask for our special FREE gift for you. I have
only a limited number for New Zealand so ask early!
My daily workshop will be
held in Workshop 2 at 12 noon daily showing you new products for both Patchwork
and Machine Embroidery. This is only a 20
minute session in which I demonstrate and explain some new products to you but
is always well worth attending to keep up to date.
CRAFT & QUILT
FAIR BRISBANE
This takes place from 19-23
October at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre, South Bank.
Remember, it is a five day
Show.
My Pre Show Seminar on “Photos
to Fabric” will be offered on the evening of Tuesday 18th October from 6.00pm
to 8.00pm enabling workers to attend as well. I've already had some email me
so disappointed that this class is in the evening yet, on the other hand, a
few can now go since it doesn't interfere with work. Can't win 'em all, as they
say.
CRAFT & QUILT FAIR ADELAIDE
The above will be repeated
in Adelaide at the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds on Wednesday 2nd November from
2.00pm till 4.00pm. The Show commences on Thursday 3rd until Sunday 6th November,
NOT as the dates previously noted in my last Newsletter for which I apologize.
Bookings are open now the
cost of which is $30.00
Please refer above for all
the details as they are the same as for NZ.
2006 SHOW DATES
I have the dates for next
years Craft & Quilt Fairs and Stitches & Craft Shows if anyone wants
to email me for those. Shall put them on my website later in the year but you
should be considering attending the Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) at the
Melbourne Exhibition Centre (different venue to this year) from 27th
30th January, 2006. A little earlier to avoid the Commonwealth Games influx
to Melbourne.
2.
RETREATS
Bookings are flowing for these Retreats for next year, so don't delay emailing
me if you are interested in attending. Deposits aren't required until early
next year but students are enrolling now so thought I should inform you. In
all honesty, I will HAVE to take confirmed placements in the order of which
I've received your requests to attend as these are now already booked out. Someone
always has to cancel out though. Keep sending your enrolments though as I've
been overwhelmed by the early response and know I have to add more Retreat dates
to accommodate your requests. Problem is the calendar doesn’t allow much room
for adjustments.
Organize your time, holidays,
money, family or whatever and join us for the following.
Just repeating what I said
last Newsletter
..
Machine Embroidery Retreat
9th - 11th July, 2006
Have you a computerized sewing machine but don't know the full capacity of
what it is able to do? This is a specially designed workshop with you in
mind!
Learn from our special guest tutor and myself, how to get the best from your
investment.
We will cover correct hooping, choice of correct stabilizers, threads &
needles, exact placement and how to use various accessories. Projects done
show how to use The Sewing Revolution correctly, other positioning and
dissecting designs, photos to fabric and so forth.
Suitable to all brands of machines and for the novice to the expert.
Machine Embroidery Retreat
14th & 15th July, 2006
Many past students of our usual 3 Day ME Retreat have requested they have a
follow up Retreat, so we have organized this as our first. Students must
have completed our Machine Embroidery Retreat prior to attending this one.
Simply follows on with more advanced techniques and ideas.
Patchwork Retreat 4th
- 6th May, 2006
Not the usual "this is how to patchwork" type class, but rather using
the
new shortcuts and techniques that make the difficult within the "easy range"
using various new equipment and patterns.
Very achievable for all levels of patchwork knowledge, including those with
NONE.
I will offer a range of topics from which you may choose so as absolute
beginners will be able to attend as well as those who have more experience
and need new challenges and learn new techniques.
Briefly, the Retreat will
cover several topics from which the girls can choose. Final details are not
all typed up as yet, but basically, we'll cover some of the "Foldy Stuff",
the Lone Star from Quiltsmart, Double Wedding Ring from Phillips Fiber Art,
plus their other methods for Attic Window, Bargello in the Round and possibly
Mariner's Compass.
Shall be pretty good and
will cover a wide variety of techniques. I'd say students could choose 5 of
their choice.
Of course, if anyone wants
to do my method of Stained Glass Appliqué or reverse foundation piecing
method from Cynthia England's range of Picture Piecing Patterns, then that's
fine too. We've covered these for a few years but some may have missed out and
wish to learn these methods.
Selecting correct colours,
correct cutting, new ways to cut Half Square Triangles, a demo on some new rulers...................need
I go on???
