1. Retreats & Online Classes
A very successful Machine
Embroidery Retreat was held a few weeks ago with us thinking it may be the
last since we've been holding them for 6 years now, but those students convinced
us otherwise with them pleading with us for more as they wish to return
as well as telling their friends what a great time they had.
Here are
some comments:
Jenny: Thanks
for the Machine Embroidery Retreat last week, I throughly enjoyed it.
I learned lots of new ideas and different things. Things I have looked at
before and didn't quiet understand, or know how to go about now seem clearer.
I have also put a sample book together with some notes
for reference in the future.
Jenny #2: When Judy Hall
of Punch with Judy says she is going to put on a great Retreat, you can
certainly believe her !! I have just come back from The Rock with my head
buzzing with new techniques and ideas for future projects.
Ann:
Had a
great time at the retreat. When you come home and start looking at what
you achieved it is more than you realise while you are doing it. The lessons
were flowing all the time, no-one was left sitting with nothing to do. If
you run another one that had different projects I would deffinately go as
I just love learning. Thanks again, I had a very enjoyable learning retreat.
Glen:
Thank-you
Judy, for a wonderful sewing experience, for your hospitality, (meals were
great) & for sharing your home and warehouse. But, truly, every part
of the retreat was interesting, challenging, and fun to do.....even my incompetence
with computer!!
Tonee: Thank you for the wonderful time I had at the
embroidery retreat. I learnt heaps. I also have to
say that the meals that we had at the farm were wonderful a credit to you
both. I hope if you have another retreat that I will be able to organize
time off work to attend. WELL DONE.
ONLINE
CLASSES
The Pleat
Maker Online Classes were a great success too. I was so pleased
with them. They certainly took a lot of my time in writing and preparing
them over a few months but they were well worth it and everyone seemed overwhelmed
with the variety of uses the pleaters have, so I think I nudged their creativity.
Karen:
They were really good value. I pay that much for a one day lesson for a
tutor when they come to my town and I have never had notes that were as
good as yours. Usually I go away from courses without any notes and only
their product - always go intending to take notes but I never do. With your
Online ClassI will always have the notes - Thanks!
Barbara:
A great course, amazing imagination, even
if I did not get through it I will always have the lessons at my leisure.
Linda: Better than I ever thought
it to be.
Lorraine: All I can say
is WOW!!! C an’t wait to try
some of these a hundred ideas running around.
So, everyone, why not
join us next time in 2010 for an Online
Class? There will be another Pleat Maker one, another
for Punchneedle Embroidery and I'm considering one for both the Fasturn
Turning Tools and for the Curve Master Presser Foot.
2. SHOWS
Melbourne's first CraftExpo is on this
week from Thursday 8th until Sunday 11th October at Royal Exhibition Building
in Carlton from 10.00am to 4.30pm daily. Punch with Judy will be on Stand
68 so drop by and say hi to John and staff. I won't be holding any daily
seminars because I personally won't be there since I'll be jetting off to
USA on Thursday morning to attend the Houston International Quilt Show.
However, the organizers have a new Discovery Desk right near our stand
with ongoing short demonstrations for 15 minutes each ALL day. Liz and Penny
will be doing some on my behalf so do stop by. I think this is a fabulous
idea. For a full schedule of events, visit www.craftexpo.net.au or check your
show guide upon entry.
Brisbane's Craft & Quilt Fair is
always a fantastic show. Come visit the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention
Centre at Southbank from Wed 21st to Sunday 25th October;
we're on Stand A09.
I'll have a daily
seminar on extra tips about using the Westalee Design Rulers at
11.30am daily in Workshop 3. Liz will have a hands-on Craft Class
on Kumihimo (Japanese Braiding) in which you will make a Zipper
Pull in Craft Circle 3 at 1.00pm daily and Sandra Chandler from Just Curves USA will again be
my special guest and will hold a Trunk Show at 2.30pm daily
in Workshop 1. You'll need to book on our stand for both the Craft Class
and the Trunk Show. Sandra
will be demonstrating on our stand how to sew curves the easy way with her
Curve
Master Presser Foot. Imagine sewing Drunkard’s Path blocks without pinning
or quartering? Imagine sewing Dresden Plate blocks without appliqué?

WHAT'S NEW?
There certainly has been
numerous new products added every month so I hope you've been checking the
What's New? section of my website regularly.
For those who love sewing with a creative flair, you will love ALL the
FashioNette range from Loralie Designs.
FashioNette Dimensional
Flowers are sculpture in fabric! Consequently, it is a challenge to
convey adequately the method or describe the outstanding results you will
receive from this happiest of mediums. Most important, be ready to have
fun! No exacting, stressful, precision here! Only delightful, creative activity,
PLUS, everything you need is included in the kits.
Texture Magic
has been one of the most exciting fun products for the year. Shrinks
your fabric up to 30% and it has so many applications. We even pleated with
it. New quilt patterns have just arrived using this too. Liz will be demonstrating
it on the
Discovery Desk
at this week's CraftExpo in Melbourne.
Magna-Glide Bobbins and Clear-Glide Bobbins may be the answer to your
desire to have trouble-free sewing without tension variation. Check out
the
new
threads here including the above pre-wound bobbins and Invisafil.
Just Curves have a new template design too, the
Double
Wedding Ring made the Curve Master way and it IS different. Liz has
made some samples using this set of templates and incorporated pleating
for the arcs. Looks fabulous!
We now have in stock the full range of
Floriani
Stabilizers, though I haven't had time to yet add all the pictures and
tutorials.
Sewline have some new products as do
Westalee Design
Rulers plus ever so many more patterns etc. Just remember to check out
the What's New? regularly as I update it weekly.
A NEW ERA OF EMBROIDERY DESIGNS HAS EMERGED -
Interactive
Embroidery - With the world's first series of Interactive Embroidery
Design collections, YOU are the designer!
I'm always proud to announce new products in this category. Our
Aussie digitizers are excelling themselves.
Jenny Haskins,
Julie Hall
&
Sue Box
all have new Machine Embroidery CDs available.
Jenny's Lottie's Poppies and Simon's Terrific Trims will be added shortly
but are available right now as is her new Galleria of Machine Artistry &
Quilting. Julie keeps coming up with very interesting designs and
her CDs are always refreshingly different. Sue Box hasn't released
a CD for a while due to health problems with her eyes, so we doubling welcome
Zoo
Babies to the range.
I note that many have accumulated Punch Rewards but there's still some
uncertainty how to use them. Simply choose to pay by Punch Points
at the closure of your order when asked how do you wish to pay? Here's
a
link
for you to read complete details. It is an automated system that only
applies to Website Orders, not phone or mail orders and are not redeemable
at shows.
October is a special month indeed. Cancer Awareness Month.
We've all been touched with someone close, or maybe yourself, so it is with
pleasure that we have so many
PINK products that some proceeds
go towards research for Cancer. This month I have a
149
piece PINK Tool Set - just for the ladies. Every woman
needs to be independant and often be her own handywoman, so here's the complete
set you need.
YOUR VERY OWN GIRL'S TOOL
SET
Always great offers
here for subscribers to Sewing With
Stitches magazine. Please remember to quote your Subscribers
Number as these offers are only available to magazine subscribers. Offers
are always great and run for one month, but on my website, I keep them available
for 3 months as I know it's hard to keep up with everything and I don't
want you to miss out. Current
ones are for Texture Magic, Magna-Glide Bobbins and Christmas Ribbonry
Book. All at bargain offers!
The
current Free Project is done by my friend Liz Colledge using Angelina Fiber,
Mistyfuse & Timtex, called Living
Postcards and it is absolutely brilliant. Very ingenious and seeing
these postcards in real life makes them so much more vibrant and incredible.
Please read the instructions and I hope it inspired you to make some.
Here's some bargains
for you that are not appearing on my website, so when you order, you'll
need to add something into the Additional Comments section that you require
the damaged item mentioned in Judy's Newsletter. First in best dressed,
so email me.
One
Rule
Steady that is not broken at all, just missing a stick on pad on the
base. Normally $55.00, yours for $40.00 plus $10.00 postage.
I hope
you use this section frequently as there are many excellent tutorials and
links to help you use our products. New tutorials
added recently include some for Floriani Embroidery products, a Video on
using the Westalee Design Rulers and information about the Magna-Glide and
Clear-Glide prewound bobbins.
Always interesting
to visit to see what others are doing. I'm about to add another section
to this for photos of students work from my Online Pleat Maker classes,
so girls please send me more. Some kind members have sent me some
images which I will add as soon as possible.
12. DID
YOU KNOW?
Did
you know that you could subscribe to the FREE on-line version of
Down Under Quilts Magazine?
Deborah Segeart, the editor Down Under Quilts and from Creative Living
Media has also set up a Cancer Research Fund through her blog - visit
http://onceaponceatime.blogspot.com
If you have a problem holding your work steady when hooping for machine
embroidery, then the
Grip-n-Grip
is your answer. Some of the girls at our recent ME Retreat used them
and must have gone home telling friends about them because we had a sudden
increase in sales. That's the best advertising possible, by word of
mouth from satisfied customers. It has a new heat resistant non-slip surface
on both sides, one to adhere to the tabletop and the other to your hoop.
The hoop will now not move at all when you hoop your fabric or stabilizer.
Fantastic!
Till next time,
Judy
