This
pattern is among the oldest quilt patterns dating back to the early 1800s.
It is also known as LeMoyne Star ... named for the brothers who founded
the city of New Orleans. The traditional piecing technique requires
precision and patience to get well-formed, flat stars. In Judy Clay's
book, the star is brightened with a little of Quiltsmart's pieced-by-appliqué
magic. Our printed fusible interfacing makes it all possible.

In this method, you
will make 14" blocks which have appliqués in each corner.

When sewn together,
the blocks form perfect, flat stars!
Here is how it is
done:
Sew
two star fabrics together in strips.
Cut each panel of interfacing into three sections.
Place interfacing on
paired strips. Stitch on the solid lines..
Cut
on the dashed lines.
Turn pieces right sides
out.
Poke out points (gently)
and finger press seams flat.

Fuse chevron-shaped appliqué
pieces to background square.
Sew
blocks together in rows and columns. Quilt and bind
