rainbowSPUN is a new textile by Pellon ® (the Vilene Company) for interior decorating, gift wrapping and apparel, but we’ve discovered lots more ways of using this versatile gossamer type “fabric”.

rainbowSPUN is a coloured spunbond textile which doesn’t fray and is stable enough for machine embroidery (see our sample below).
Lutradur, as it is known as in the textile art industry, is a non-woven polyester fabric that is lightweight, flexible, delicate yet very strong. Completely washable in a gentle cycle (though I do suggest care, even handwash) and will accept a cool iron setting. May be used in patchwork, makes wonderful appliqués, can be ironed to Vliesofix, may be painted, stamped, is ideal for 3D flower cut-outs because the edges don’t fray, a stencil burner will burn the edges to a given shape since it is polyester, glue it or silk screen it and the list goes on. Textile artists will find it a very versatile medium for Quilt Journals, Postcards and all sorts of experimenting with other mediums. It even travels through an inkjet printer with no problems.
