Ott-Lite Technical Data
The difference between Ott-Lite and most other white lights that are on the market lies in the science behind the bulb. Most white fluorescent bulbs contain a mix of 3 phosphors in the tube. A bulb like this is easily available for anybody to buy in China. Dr. Ott spent 40 years of his life developing a bulb that imitates natural sunlight. In an Ott-Lite bulb you find a mix of 6 or 7 different phosphors to create a perfectly balanced light.

Ott-Lite has been proven to be more than 50% better to see with than general illumination and task lighting that people commonly use. Incandescent, hallogen and general fluorescent lighting sources have poor scotopic lumen output, which are the type of lumens that have been scientifically proven to make it easier for the eye to see. Ott-Lite fluorescent light sources produce light with and almost perfect photopic to scotopic lumen ratio of 2.31 (perfect is 2.5).

In order to see clearly with incandescent, halogen and general fluorescent light, people have to increase the brightness of the light source (the photopic lumens) to make the pupil of the eye contract and thereby provide better focus. Increasing the brightness of the light source often results in glare, eyestrain and headaches caused by the eye trying to defend itself against the intrusion of too much light.
