Quiltsmart Rob Pete Cushion Project
Following these instructions you can make either the Rob Peter to Pay Paul or the Dolly Madison's Workbox cushion.

Instructions
1. Cut materials as indicated in the cutting chart.
Cut the Quiltsmart printed interfacing sheet as shown. You will use two pieces with two footballs each. Save the rest for your next project.
2. Place a peice of interfacing on each of the rectangles (4-1/2" x 18") of Fabric A and B - the portion of the arcs. Both right sides must be up. The fusible side (bumpy side) of interfacing must be face down against the right side of the fabric.
Sew in a figure 8 on the solid lines using a short stitch, about 15-20 stitches per inch.
3. Cut on the dashed lines to make four dark and four light arcs as shown.
Turn the pieces right side out. Finger press the seam flat. Do not use a hot iron!
Putting Arcs on Background Squares
4. Arrange four light arcs on the square fabric A.
For Rob Pete, the arcs should touch at the corners.
For Dolly Madison's Workbox, the arcs should be centred on each edge with a gap of about 1-1/4" between the corner and the edge of the arc. (Hint: Use the arc placement guide on page 35 of Rob Pete by Kathleen Mullendore.)
5. Place one dark arc on each of the four rectangles of fabric B.
6. Using a steam iron set to "cottons", press to fuse the arcs in place. (Hint: heat to a count of 6, let the piece cool momentarily before moving)
7. Stitch
the arcs to the background by sewing a narrow zig-zag stitch along the edges
of each arc. Invisible (nylon monofilament) top thread is recommended. (Hint:
Keep most of the stitch on the arc). Your stitch should look like this: 
8. Cut away excess background fabric from behind the arcs.
Assembling and Finishing
9. Lay out the blocks as shown and sew together in rows. Using a 1/4" seam allowance. Be careful to match the corners of the blocks.
If you are making Dolly Madisons Workbox, it is recommended that you use pins to match the ends of the arcs as shown below.
10. Trim the piece to measure 16" square.
11. Layer the top, bottom and backing. Quilt.
12. Fold the two pieces of backing in half so they measure 10" x 16". Place these on the back of the quilted block matching the raw edges and overlapping the two folds.
13. baste around the block, 1/4" from the raw edges. Note: The overlapping folds form the opening for inserting the cushion. Do not stitch the opening shut.
14. Bind.
