Charlotte's Fusible Web by Charlotte Warr Andersen - 115yds
Once in a while, a new idea or technique or product comes along that revolutionizes the way we do something. Such is the case with Charlotte's Fusible Web, a new fusible thread.
Charlotte Warr Andersen is the creator of one-of-a-kind pictorial quilts specializing in fabric portraits that feature meticulous hand appliqué. Charlotte is a two-time Best of Show winner at the International Quilt Festival in Houston and also won the top prize at the 2003 Bernina Fashion Show.
Why a fusible thread? Ideas, techniques, and results are amazing. Here are four uses:
a. It makes fusible appliqué work amazingly better. Instead of using iron-on webbing in between layers that makes the finished item stiff, Charlotte's Fusible Web fuses the edges, leaving the appliqué unbelievably soft. Click here to view a tutorial.
b. It makes machine binding a lot easier and faster. Simply wind Charlotte's Fusible Web onto the bobbin and apply the binding with a small zigzag to the back of the quilt. Turn to the front, press, then stitch into place. . Click here to view a tutorial.
c. It makes holding a zipper in place so much more securely. d. It makes facings lay flat and eliminates hand sewing.

Bobbin Use:
Wind the bobbin as usual with Charlotte's Fusible Web and use a fine thread such as MonoPoly™ or The Bottom Line™ in the needle.
You should also shorten the stitch length.
Needle Use:
Use a Topstitch 100/16 Needle. You will need to loosen the upper tension until the stitch is even and you should avoid the last thread guide just before the needle.
You should also shorten the stitch length.
Fusing:
Use the hottest iron temperature setting suitable for the fabric being fused. Apply heat for 10 seconds then allow the fabric to cool before handling.
Judy's Note: I've used fusible threads before, but Charlotte's Fusible Web is certainly one everyone should have to speed up the process of so many techniques. Imagine appliqué without the stiffness of iron-on fusible go-betweens?
Imagine holding your binding in place without pinning? No more problems with movement whilst sewing.
Imagine holding your zipper in place precisely and without pinning?
Imagine taking up a hem or securing a facing without hand-sewing?
You MUST try this fabulous new thread! It's the best I've used!
