Quiltsmart Applique Revival

This book by Anne Dease provides step-by-step instructions for appliqué figures on 10" (finished size) blocks that are arranged in either a lattice and cornerstone layout or a chain blocks layout.  Quiltsmart offers four companion appliqué patterns that are reproductions of classics from the 1930s.

Here's how it is made:    

 Cut fabrics and interfacing. Place interfacing on fabric.

Stitch interfacing to the fabric

Trim seam allowances.   

Turn right side out.

Fuse appliqués to background square.

Zigzag stitch appliqués to background.

Add embellishments by embroidery

Chain blocks may be made using the Squares on Fusible Interfacing technique. (See the Watercolor page for more on this method).  This approach requires Quiltsmart's 2-1/2" gridded interfacing.  It is a LOT faster and more precise than stitching squares two-by-two.

Sew blocks together in rows and columns.  Quilt and bind
