Fan Shaped Silverware Holder Project

Material requirements depend on the width of fabric you want to use.
   It is easy to determine once you have drawn your pattern.
  1. Print the image of the grid for the pattern.. The blocks are all 1 inch.
    The pattern consists of 3 half circles in different sizes shown in the  3 different colors on the grid. Redraw your pattern to correct size on paper.
  2. Cut 2 large half circles (A)  from the fabric of your choice and one from battting or a thicker padding to sandwich between the 2 layers of fabric for firmness. Sew together with a seam at the rounded edges or finish off with bias binding like mine..
    Mark the 12 segments as on the grid with a fabric marker.
  3. Cut 1 smaller half circle (B) from fabric and one from tulle or fishnetting. The purpose of the tulle is to make the layer stiff so that the pockets can stand up like a flute. Sew together at the top and finish off with bias binding. Remember to mark the 12 equal sections.
  4. Cut 1 still smaller half circle (C) from fabric and one from tulle as above and finish off with bias binding. Should you want to do embroidery with your machine this should be done before you put the 2 layers together. Note that this section is only divided into 6 sections.
  5. Now pin and sew together the 3 layers on the marked lines..I normally do every second layer of the 2nd section and then complete it by stitching the 3rd section right through. Remember the second layer forms 12 pockets for the silverware and the 3rd layer forms 6 pockets for the napkins.
  6. Finish off the bottom edge with bias binding and sew a little tassle down where the
    sections meet. This makes for an attractive finish and will hide the stitching where
    the sections get together as it is not always so easy to get that neatly done.
  7. Alternative choice: You may also elect to do all this through all the layers, but keeping the lining of the first large half circle (A) separately and not finishing that section with bias binding. Place this topside onto the the underlayers and sew right around leaving a small 4" opening to turn inside out. Sew opening closed.
